Major Lake signs the certificate as two children become Junior Soldiers

Children can become a member of the Salvation Army by becoming a Junior Soldier. To do this they sign a certificate, and would make these promises:

'Having asked God for forgiveness, I will be his loving and obedient child. Because Jesus is my Saviour from sin, I will trust Him to keep me good, and will try to help others to follow Him. I promise to pray, to read my Bible and, by His help, to lead a life that is clean in thought, word and deed.'

They can then wear the Junior Soldier's uniform that can be seen here, play in the youth band, and sing in the young people's choir.

Once a year the citadel has a special Sunday called 'A Junior Soldier's Day of Renewal.' This is when a Junior Soldier can make their promises again. This year, they took photographs of each child so that the adults would remember to pray for them.

This Junior Soldier received a present from his prayer partner on his birthday
