The harvest display at the rear of the citadel

The citadel is decorated with Harvest loaves, tins of food, vegetables and fruit.

Young Salvationists bringing harvest goods

Harvest is celebrated in September, and is a time for Christians to say thank you to God for all the things He gives us. Here, the children are bringing up gifts of food to be put on the Harvest table. The food will then be used to help the homeless and the needy.

The adults have a special Harvest Thanksgiving envelope, into which they place money. These envelopes are given to the Salvation Army to help them in the work they do. This might be to build new worship centres, to help Salvationists tell more people about their faith, or to help with things like soup runs, or Lyndon House.

In the corner of this envelope is a symbol of the Salvation Army, called the Red Shield. This symbol is used for the Salvationists special Red Shield Appeal. It is a time when they go round their local town, collecting money for their work.
