The mercy seat, the most important part of the citadel

The mercy seat is probably the most important part of a Salvation Army citadel. It is a long bench at the front of the church, just before the reading desk. In this photograph, it has been decorated for the Harvest festival.

The mercy seat is the focal point for a relationship with God. It is a place where people can start a new relationship with God, or make a relationship with Him stronger. People can go to the mercy seat during, or at the end of the service, to think and pray. Others in the church, such as Major Lake, would often come and pray with them.
