The sermon is a time for learning, when perhaps Tony, the rector, or Jan will use the bible reading to teach people at Combs more about God. People taking a sermon will spend a long time praying and thinking about what they should say.

The sermon will be spoken from the pulpit, which is a raised platform. A microphone is used so that everyone can hear clearly.
