Educhurch offers a good framework for children to communicate their findings about the religions represented in a local neighbourhood. They could even create a Web site or multimedia presentation based around the Educhurch format.

All three churches followed the same pattern:

  • information about the outside of the building
  • contents of the building. This could be the function of the different rooms, or religious artefacts found within the buildings.
  • events of the church, both during a church service, and during the week.
  • interviews with various people within the church. Some examples can be seen on the the people page in the themes section. During the Educhurch project, I asked the same questions to each of the church leaders (have a look at the questions for Tony, Major Lake or Steve), and different set of questions to everyone else, which were:

    • What is your main role within the church?
    • Why is it important?
    • What do you do during the week?
    • How does your faith effect what you do during the week?

This will give a good framework to guide the children's writing. I found a dicatphone invaluable when conducting interviews. I have even used them on school trips, to play back later, to remind the children (and me!) of what was said.
